‹48mm›는 지름 48mm의 종이 원통을 통해 촬영한 일련의 사진을 엮은 책이다. 어린 시절 종이를 말아 망원경처럼 들여다보던 경험에서 출발한 이 작업은, 대상을 확대하지 않은 채 시야의 범위만을 제한하는 장치를 통해 ‘자세히 본다’는 감각을 다룬다. 원통 바깥의 대부분은 시야에서 사라지고, 그 안에 들어온 사물과 주변의 일부만이 이미지로 남는다. 시야의 제한은 대상에 대한 정보를 덜어내는 동시에 특정한 부분에 시선을 머물게 하며, 오히려 대상에 더 가까이 다가간 듯한 감각을 만든다. 이 작업은 이러한 과정을 통해 대상을 자세히 들여다보는 방식에 대해 생각한다.

‹48mm› is a book composed of a series of photographs taken through a paper tube measuring 48 mm in diameter. The project began with a childhood memory of rolling up a sheet of paper and looking through it like a telescope. Without magnifying the subject, the tube simply limits the field of view, exploring the sensation of “looking closely.” Most of what lies outside the tube disappears from sight, leaving only the objects and fragments of their surroundings that fall within its narrow frame. This restricted view removes contextual information while directing attention toward particular details, creating a sense of being closer to the subject. Through this process, ‹48mm› considers different ways of looking closely at things.
