《역추적하기》는 수집한 그래픽 티셔츠를 출발점으로, 그래픽의 ‘출처’를 추적해본다. 이 탐색은 하나의 근원으로 회귀하는 추적이 아니라, 검색과 발견, 연상과 반복이 교차하며 경로가 계속 분기하고 겹치는 비선형적 흐름에 가깝다. 무심히 소비되던 티셔츠의 시각 언어는 그 경로를 따라가며 상업, 밈, 정치, 문화의 층위로 연결되고, 이미지들은 고정된 원본을 갖기보다 순환과 전이, 복제의 네트워크 안에서 위치를 바꿔가며 의미를 형성한다. 결국 《역추적하기》는 ‘기원을 찾는 일’이 종종 그 불가능성을 드러내는 방식으로 끝난다는 점을 보여주면서, 그 불분명함 속에서 이미지들 사이의 새로운 관계가 구성되는 과정을 드러낸다.

《Tracing Back》 begins with a collection of graphic T-shirts and traces the “source” of their graphics. The search does not return to a single origin; it follows a non-linear flow in which searching and finding, association and repetition intersect, constantly branching and overlapping. What is casually consumed in everyday life expands, along these paths, into layered connections across commerce, memes, politics, and culture. Rather than pointing to a fixed original, the work suggests that images shift position and produce meaning within networks of circulation, transfer, and reproduction. In the end, 《Tracing Back》 shows how attempts to find an origin often arrive at its impossibility, and how that very indeterminacy becomes a site where new relations between images are formed.
