이 작업은 프란츠 카프카의 『변신』에 등장하는 사물을 중심으로 원작을 다시 읽는 8권의 연작이다. 각 권은 소설의 주변에 놓여 있던 하나의 사물을 골라 그 사물이 등장하는 원문과 각주, 이미지를 다시 엮는 방식으로 구성됐다. 본문은 원래 책의 지면 비율을 유지한 채 더 큰 판형 안에 배치되고, 본문 곳곳에 놓인 각주 기호는 텍스트 바깥의 이미지를 불러온다. 이렇게 삽입된 이미지는 장면을 설명하는 삽화가 아니라 원문과 각주 사이를 오가며 새로운 읽기를 만드는 또 하나의 파라텍스트로 작동한다. 각 권의 표지에는 해당 사물의 이름이 여러 차례 반복되는데, 그 수는 『변신』에서 실제로 그 사물이 언급된 횟수와 같다.

This project is a series of eight books that rereads Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis through the objects that appear in the story. Each volume focuses on a single object that remains at the margins of the narrative, rearranging related passages from the original text together with footnotes and images. The main text is placed within a larger page while preserving the proportions of the original layout, and footnote marks throughout the text call up images from outside it. These images do not simply illustrate the story, but function as another form of paratext, moving between the original text and its annotations to create new ways of reading. On the cover of each volume, the name of the object is repeated as many times as it appears in The Metamorphosis.
